Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, inspired by the vision of transforming rural development processes by leveraging the knowledge, research, innovation, and social commitment of higher educational institutions. Its aim is to connect institutions of higher learning with rural communities so that academic knowledge can contribute meaningfully to local development, sustainability, and inclusive growth.
The programme encourages faculty members, students, researchers, and institutions to understand rural realities, identify local challenges, and work with communities to develop practical, affordable, and sustainable solutions. Through village adoption, field surveys, community interaction, technology intervention, local resource mapping, and convergence with government schemes, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan provides a strong platform for education-led rural transformation.
At its core, UBA reflects the idea that education must not remain limited to classrooms and laboratories. It must reach society, especially rural Bharat, and contribute to the creation of self-reliant, empowered, and sustainable communities.
